On 10th  Makaram 1050 (1875) an application to build a chapel in the name of    St. Paul the Apostle on the land owned by Sri Ittiyavara Chacko Vakaparambil on Alappuzha region (Kollad,Kottayam), where the present church is located. The request to build a chapel was submitted to the Malankara Metropolitan His Eminence Mathews Mar Athanasios, The establishment was approved and came into being according to the order of His Holiness.

Rev.Fr. Geevarghese Kaithayil, Sri Mani Mani Vykathu and Sri Ittiyavara Chacko Vakaparampil jointly submitted a petition to the Kottayam Diwan Peshkan requesting that the chapel be allowed as a parish church. The permission was obtained from the government to build the church and  Rev.Fr. Geevarghese Kaithayil served as the vicar from 1055 (1880) to 1062 (1887).  During this period, the parish general meeting met and decided to stand firm with Vattasharayil Mar Divanyasios Thirumeni in the church case.In 1112 (1939), the reconstruction of the church was resumed under the leadership of Rev.Fr Kuriakose Pezhamattam. 

In 1944 the consecration of the newly built church was held. The church services were conducted under the main celebrant of His Holiness Baselios Geevarghese II Catholicos and the co-celebrants of Metropolitans His Grace Augen Mar Thimotheos and His Grace Kuriakose Mar Gregorios.The year 1999-2000 was celebrated as the Fifth Silver Jubilee Year (Pancharajata Jubilee Year) in the history of the parish. In 2000, the sacrament of consecration was performed with the completion of the Jubilee building.

The parish council meeting held in 2009 decided to renovate the church. The inauguration of the fund for the reconstruction of the church was performed by His Grace Geevarghese Mar Ivanios Metropolitan of the Kottayam Diocese.The 2010 festival was a holy day that deserves to be recorded in the golden letters of the parish's history.The foundation stone of the new church was laid on January 23rd , (10th Makaram) by His Grace Geevarghese Mar Ivanios Metropolitan of the Kottayam Diocese.  and His Grace Geevarghese Mar Coorilos Metropolitan of the Mumbai Diocese. The initial work on the construction of the church began in May 2011 under the leadership of Rev.Fr John Joseph Chalassery. The ground breaking ceremony of the new church was held on 15th September 2013, after the prayers and blessings of His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Paulose II Catholicos. On January 20 and 21, 2015 (1190 Makaram 6,7), the church sacraments were conducted under the presiding authority His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Paulose II Catholicos and the co-consecration His Grace Thomas Mar Athanasios, His Grace Mathews Mar Severios, His Grace Geevarghese Mar Kourilos, and His Grace Joshua Mar Nicodemos.

The reconstruction of the Madbhaha with dhuskudish and irathazh was carried out in 2021 under the leadership of Rev.Fr. Soni V. Mani. The sacraments were performed by His Grace Geevarghese Mar Koorilos Metropolitan and His Grace Yuhanon Mar Diascoros Metropolitan.
